About

  • What’s Generation Mixtape? This blog is essentially a home for the thoughts, opinions, and musings of yours truly. I do a lot of revisiting, reviewing, reexamining, reevaluating, or just plain gushing about the albums, books, and (someday soon) films that defined a generation (or two).
  • Who runs this site? James Weiskittel
  • Okay, so who’s that? Hmm–let’s go with this for now: First and foremost, I’m a proud father of two and an ever-so-grateful husband. From my first job managing a local record store to my current position as a manager and buyer for a top-100 music retailer, I’ve spent most of my career in the music industry. My writing reflects decades of personal and professional experience and a lifelong passion for music, movies, and literature.
  • How do you decide what you write about? After years of working in the freelance space (as a copyeditor, reviewer, and ghostwriter), I wanted an avenue to write what I want to write, no strings/expectations/paycheck attached. The only rule I’ve set for myself is that I need to love the topic, hence the content you’ll find here. What you won’t find, however, are ‘hot takes’ or cutting critiques–that’s way above my pay-grade.
  • A lot of ‘90s artists, eh? Well, I am a child of the eighties, hence the url.
  • So, you play in a band? Yep, I’ve played in bands for as long as I can remember, most notably with Jacknife Powerbombs. I also currently release music under the moniker Monosaur.
  • You mentioned freelance work–are you available to write about my band/project/book? My plate’s pretty full at the moment, but if you have something in mind, I’m always happy to listen (shoot me a message).
